Thermocouples

A Thermocouple is a temperature sensor consisting of two wires with a common junction that generates a voltage based on temperature changes.  The two wires are made of different metals and are welded together to create the junction. A cold-junction is used to create a reference point for the voltage of the sensor.

There are many different types of thermocouples which are created using different types of metals. The temperature range and accuracy is determined by the type of thermocouple used. The most common types of thermocouples are J,K,T,N, and E.
