INTEMPCO R350 miniature temperature sensors are designed to be installed beneath the Babbitt layer of bearing shoes. They monitor temperature to give early warning of oil film breakdown. The Babbitt layer of a bearing is a thin coating of Babbitt metal that lines the bearing shell. Babbitt is a soft, white alloy of lead, tin, copper, and antimony. It's used to reduce friction and wear in bearings, which extends their life. Equipment can then be shut down before catastrophic failure occurs.
R350s are small and have metal cases and insulated leads to withstand rough handling and harsh environments. Elastomer filled cables are available to prevent hazardous gases and liquids to escape in case the cable is cut.
