R350 Bearing Embedment RTDs Picture
  • Low cost solution when minimum downtime is essential for Babbitt layer type bearings
  • Miniature RTD sensor supplied with copper or stainless steel case
  • Sensor cases available in many sizes
  • Temperature range of the sensor is -50 to +200 °C for PTFE insulated lead wire
  • Many PTFE/FEP cable types available including elastomer filled
  • Thin film element provides tip sensitivity and fast response

INTEMPCO R350 miniature temperature sensors are designed to be installed beneath the Babbitt layer of bearing shoes. They monitor temperature to give early warning of oil film breakdown. The Babbitt layer of a bearing is a thin coating of Babbitt metal that lines the bearing shell. Babbitt is a soft, white alloy of lead, tin, copper, and antimony. It's used to reduce friction and wear in bearings, which extends their life. Equipment can then be shut down before catastrophic failure occurs.

R350s are small and have metal cases and insulated leads to withstand rough handling and harsh environments. Elastomer filled cables are available to prevent hazardous gases and liquids to escape in case the cable is cut.

  • Install beneath the Babbitt layer of bearing shoes
  • Install in bearing housings
  • Monitor temperature in machines with limited space
